History and Biography
Jay grew up in St Louis Park, Minnesota. In 1991, when he was 18 years old, Jay became a licensed insurance agent and worked for his father’s firm, Dworsky Agency, for three years before leaving the business to pursue a different path. “I took a break from the financial advisory arena, went back to college, and then worked many years teaching physical education and coaching girls’ high school sports. I learned how to connect with all types of people in both joyful and meaningful ways, and I continue to draw upon these experiences daily,” he says.
Jay attended the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities, earning his Bachelor of Arts in economics in 1993 and Master of Education in physical education in 2000. From 1994 to 2007, he was a physical education teacher and held various other non-degreed teaching roles. He went back to the financial services industry in 2007 where he has continued to evolve and find his niche as a retirement planner.
“Spending time as an educator, raising my own family, and being with my clients is a combination of experiences that I feel allows me to be a trusted and experienced financial advisor. All things being equal, people like to do business and take advice from a person that has some life experience, is humble, and trustworthy,” Jay says. “A long-time friend and client from my bicycle racing days recently said to me, ‘You’re experienced and battle-tested.’ I took it as a compliment and we both laughed at ourselves realizing our youth is now in our kids.”
As Jay puts it, “My speaking and advising style has been described as a blend of teacher, advisor and friend. My style has developed over the years. I spent countless hours studying, writing my own curriculum and implementing my unique style of teaching. Discipline and team-building made my teaching experience meaningful, which translated into a thoughtful response from my students. This same thoughtful approach is delivered to my financial advisory clients and continues to expand.”
